SUMMARY:Celebration Series 2022 - "Diversity in the Space Program"
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating “Diversity in the Space Program” is the Feb 19\, 2022 presentation in the “American Space Museum Celebration Series 2022.\n\nPresented by The American Space Museum in partnership with the Moore Cultural Center & Museum\, the celebration will be held at the Birthplace of Civil Rights: The Moore Cultural Center\, Mims\, FL. \nThe event will be streamed live (starting 11:30am) on the ASM YouTube Channel and can be replayed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqKYlvy-ZXc. \nThe event includes a discussion panel whose members include…\n\nArt Edwards: Retired after 50-plus years as a NASA contractor at Kennedy Space Center. He began as an African-American co-op student from University of Miami and became an electrical engineer/avionics lead for Rockwell on the Space Shuttle\, specializing in the Remote Manipulator Arm. He retired after years as a quality and safety manager.\nLaura Poliah: Current NASA Orion lead and distinguished engineer. She is the daughter of immigrants from Trinidad and Tobago\, and is a first-generation college student\, graduating from the University of Central Florida in 2010 in aerospace engineering. She has been a distinguished systems engineer on Orion since 2011\, and is involved in several leadership development programs\, including the professional development chair for the local Society of Women Engineers.\nMike McCulley: NASA astronaut and former President and CEO of United Space Alliance.\n\nWe are honored to have them share their unique perspective about diversity in NASA. \n\nThe birthplace of America’s Civil Rights Movement\nAttend this event\, just four miles from ASM’s location in Downtown Titusville\, and learn why the Moore Cultural Center is the birthplace of America’s Civil Rights Movement\, just as the American Space Museum represents the birth of the Space Age. \nCivil rights activists and school teachers Harry and Harriette Moore were murdered by racists on Christmas night 1951 by a bomb that destroyed their home. They are the first and only Black couple killed in America’s 70-year Civil Rights movement. \nThe Moore Cultural Center Museum in Mims\, Florida is the site of this heinous act\, where the family home has been recreated around an informative museum and beautiful park\, built by Brevard County.\nThere will also be a special announcement from the great-grandson of the Moores\, Darren Pagan. \n\nPresented By…\nThe MOORE CENTER is part of the Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Cultural Complex which also includes the Moore MUSEUM and Moore Memorial PARK. Please visit them at\n2180 Freedom Ave\, Mims\, FL 32754\nMap and Full Contact Info Below. \nThe AMERICAN SPACE MUSEUM\n308 Pine Street\, Titusville\, FL. 32796\nMap and Full Contact Info HERE
