American Space Museum and the film’s producers present the world premier of “The Base to Space,” the incredible story of NASA’s Mobile Launch Platform 2 (MLP-2) for Apollo Saturn V and Space Shuttle. The EVENT includes a “Meet and Greet” with many film characters including astronaut Bruce Melnick, a Q & A session, and a post event party. Note that MLP-2 was the last place on Earth touched by Apollo 11 and Shuttle Challenger.

The 50-minute film features many of the MLP-2 team members from the past 50 years. Many of these principal film characters will be in attendance including astronaut Bruce Melnick.

Time and Location: Sunday, Sept. 25th from 2-5 pm at Hyatt Place Hotel, Titusville. (ADDRESS and Google MAP Link at page bottom under “VENUE”)

“The Base to Space” is the 5th documentary from the film making team of producer Mike Cotton and director Dave Barnes, surpassing 100 film projects by them during the past 15 years. Tony Pasko provides original music for this historical look at an important piece of NASA’s hardware to launch humans to space.

TICKET COST & SALES
Admission fees to this “world premier” directly support the non-profit American Space Museum. “We are happy to pass on the admission fee to the American Space Museum,” said Mike Cotton. “We enjoy a great partnership with one of the few institutions preserving our incredible space age. Their contacts and support were integral in putting this documentary together.”

This is the second film that well-known documentary team Cotton and Barnes have worked on with Executive Producer Pete Charamut. Charamut is the owner of Frank-Lin Services based near the Kennedy Space Center, and when he was contracted by NASA for the demolition of MLP-2 to scrap, he knew the famous history and contacted the documentary team.

This exclusive “world premier” event will include presentations of MLP-2 pieces to ASM for their Shuttle Gallery, a short talk by the producers and a photo slide show of the backstory of this complex metal structure that was so important to America’s Space Age. This is one of several Mobile Launch Platforms, loaded with either a Saturn V rocket or Space Shuttle, that the NASA Crawler took from the Vehicle Assembly Building to either Launch Complex 39A or B to launch humans and hardware into space.

  • 2:00 pm: “Meet and Greet” with short talk and “making of” slideshow by producers
