Volunteer Opportunities
Please consider joining our team of volunteers!
We need YOU! A major portion of our staff are volunteers. The work can be both fun and rewarding. You also get to work with some awesome people. Whether you can only spare a few hours a week or much more, we have plenty of opportunities for you. Although some require a particular skill set, others do not, or we can train you. Although most of the work is in person at the museum, we also have some work that can be done from home or out in the community. Below are just some of the opportunities.
Volunteer Opportunities
- Facility Maintenance
- Self explanatory. Most tools on site. Contact the Facilities Manager Dan McKune at dan@AmericanSpaceMuseum.org or phone 321-264-0434.
- Landscaping/Yard Work
- Self explanatory. Most tools on site. Contact the Office Coordinator Anita Truex at Anita@AmericanSpaceMuseum.org or phone 321-264-0434.
- Gift Shop / Reception Volunteers
- Looking for volunteers interested in working a few hours/days a week in the museum gift shop and reception area. This involves more than just assisting visitors with their purchases. You are also an ambassador for the organization, as you will be the first person they meet when entering the museum or calling on the phone. We entertain guests from around the globe and you never know when an astronaut or other VIP will wander in the door. We also have various educational programs, astronomy nights, and other special events to keep things interesting.
- Basic computer skills peppered with loads of people skills not to mention a big smile are the requirements for this volunteer position. So if you love people and have an interest in history (especially space history!) and think you might enjoy working in a gift shop / reception environment then this is definitely the place for you. We are open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and we would be thrilled to add you to our schedule. Contact the Office Coordinator Anita Truex at Anita@AmericanSpaceMuseum.org or phone 321-264-0434.
- Museum Docents…
- We need folks with an interest in the space program to act as Docents. If you can only serve a few hours, that’s okay. We are open Monday through Saturday between 10 am and 5 pm (closed Sundays). There are openings available at various points throughout the schedule. If you have worked in the space program, that’s even better, but it is not a must. You DO need an interest in, and some knowledge of, the American Space Program. We will train you and provide more info and a general script (but we encourage people to insert their own observations, anecdotes and information in order to make each tour unique.) You MUST be comfortable speaking to strangers and engaging with the public! Contact the Office Coordinator Anita Truex at Anita@AmericanSpaceMuseum.org or phone 321-264-0434.
- IT Support…
- We need volunteers with some experience in at least one of the following: Computer setup and repair, Windows domains and servers, Networking, Multimedia equipment, and/or Website support. Contact IT Manager Bruce Jacobs at bruce@AmericanSpaceMuseum.org.
- Multimedia Support…
- We need folks to help with everything from video editing to graphics design. We have an online presence which we can improve and extend if we get more volunteers. Contact IT Manager Bruce Jacobs at bruce@AmericanSpaceMuseum.org.
- Auction Support…
- For every one of our space memorabilia charity auctions, when in-person bidding is allowed, we need help with setup, cleanup, running the artifact slide show, handing out catalogs, keeping track of floor bids, etc. Contact the Office Coordinator Anita Truex at Anita@AmericanSpaceMuseum.org or phone 321-264-0434.
