View Planet Mercury Crossing the Sun

November 11, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm EST

Mark Marquette with his telescope

Family-friendly and FREE. **

This Mercury transit across the face of the Sun will not happen again until 2032, so make sure you safely see this 5-hour morning event. Stargazers from Brevard Astronomical Society will safely show you the planet through their special solar telescopes in the museum front parking lot starting at 10 am. The Sun’s first planet will begin cutting across the solar disk beginning at 7:34 am EST, right after sunrise. Mercury will slowly cross the Sun for five and a half hours, moving off the disk at 1:04 pm EST. In ratio, if the Sun is a basketball is size, Mercury will look like a pea crossing our star.

** The outside observing is free, but normal admission will be charged if you wish to tour inside the museum… EXCEPT military veterans will be admitted free.
